The 2020 The Shevchenko Scientific Society Medical Commission Conference: “COVID-2019 Pandemic. Editorial Policy of Journals in the Modern Scientific Space and the Role of Editors' Associations” was carried out as a webinar on April 7, 2020. The event was supported by Danylo Halytsky Lviv National Medical University (Lviv, Ukraine), Shevchenko Scientific Society and Western Scientific Center of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine and Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine.

The conference focused on the urgent need to develop strategy of prevention COVID-2019 pandemic and roles of members of scientific community to contribute in global efforts to improve scientific writing and editing. About 100 people attended the webinar. Among them were representatives from Lviv, Odesa, Drohobych, Ivano-Frankivsk, as well as from other countries, from Qatar, USA, UK. The webinar was conducted through the Zoom platform (due to quarantine measures), and participants were able to listen to interesting scientific reports from leading epidemiologists, immunologists and infectious diseases specialists and ask questions on the lecture’s themes.

Leading professors of Danylo Halytsky Lviv National Medical University were the speakers of the first part of the webinar dedicated to COVID-2019 pandemic. Natalya Vynograd (Epidemiology Department), covered the epidemiological aspects of the COVID-2019 pandemic, Valentyna Chopyak (Clinical Immunology and Allergology Department), made a report on immunological features of the COVID-2019 pandemic, Olexandr Zinchuk, (Infectious Diseases Department), was covering clinical manifestations, features of diagnostics and treatment COVID-2019.

Among the speakers of the second part of the webinar was Armen Yuri Gasparyan, MD, PhD, FESC, member of the World Association of Medical Editors, Associate Professor of Medicine of the University of Birmingham (UK). He reported the requirements for journals, indexed in international scientific databases and the role of Scientific Editors’ Associations in his first lecture and described the standards of peer review of scientific articles in his second lecture. This part of the webinar was English speaking.

These lectures were preceded by questions from the participants of the webinar and an active discussion about the prospects of creation of the Ukrainian or Eastern European Council of Science Editors.

Oksana Zayachkivska, Physiology Department), Editor-in-Chief of the “Proceeding of the Shevchenko Scientific Society. Medical Sciences” and Roman Kushnir, Academician of National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, Chairman of the Shevchenko Scientific Society summarized the webinar, emphasizing on inter-disciplinary collaboration and cooperation, and wished everyone good health and prosperity.
